Constable injured by suspect’s associates

LAHORE: A police constable was injured when three people allegedly attacked him on The Mall to get a suspect freed on Wednesday

The policeman was assaulted by motorcyclists when he was taking a drugs case suspect back to the Old Anarkali police station after his appearance in a local court.

Witnesses said when the policeman along with the suspect reached The Mall on his official motorbike, three men on a motorcycle intercepted him. One of the assailants blew chilli powder in the eyes of the policeman while another attacked him with a blade.

When the policeman showed resistance, some passersby rescued him.

The assailants managed to flee.

Police reached the site on being informed and shifted their injured colleague to a hospital and took the suspect back to the police station.

student killed: An eighth class student was killed in an armed clash between two rival groups in Nawankot on Wednesday.

The firing started between the Naeem and Haroon groups after an exchange of hot words over a petty issue.

During the crossfire, a bullet hit passerby Suleman, 12, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

The police said the accused were absconding.

three burnt: Three passengers suffered multiple burns after a bus caught fire on Ferozepur Road near Kahna on Wednesday.

According to the initial police reports, the bus was carrying over 30 passengers. A majority of them alighted safely but three suffered burns.

The rescue 1122 teams shifted them to a local hospital.

According to rescue workers, CNG leakage might have caused the fire which damaged the bus badly.

Meanwhile, a minor girl died of severe burns shortly after she fell in hot water container in Shahdara on Wednesday.

According to the local police, six-year-old Samreen was playing in the courtyard of her Jia Moosa residence when she fell into the container.

She was taken to a local hospital but she died on the way.

The police handed over her body to the family after legal formalities.
