CONOR MCGREGOR TWEETS THAT HE HAS RETIRED FROM MMA

While most folks were sleeping, former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor put a tweet out stating that he has retired from MMA. Below is the quotation from his tweet:
“Hey guys quick announcement, I have decided to retire from the game officially called”Mixed Martial Art” today. I need my colleagues well going in contest. I join my former spouses with this particular venture, currently. Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!”
At first glance, it’s hard to choose McGregor seriously. After all, this is not the first time he’s said he’s retired from MMA. The other time he tweeted something similar after he had been submitted by Nate Diaz at a shocker in UFC 196. Only a couple of months after tweeting he was back at the cage, winning a majority decision over Diaz in UFC 202. So whenever McGregor tweets something about retiring from MMA, you need to keep in mind he has pulled this stunt before.
At second glance, though, there could be something more to this. After all, McGregor doesn’t need MMA anymore. It’s just a matter of whether or not he has that burning fire to step into the cage, because as far as finances go, he’s set for life. The Floyd Mayweather boxing superfight in 2017 made McGregor upwards of $100 million, and that financial windfall help set him up for success using Proper 12 whiskey. McGregor does not really truly”need” MMA anymore. But he is a competitor, and he probably doesn’t wish to go out on a devastating entry loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in UFC 229 in his last bout, and of course all the shenanigans that went along with it.
This could be a strategy by McGregor if anything. It is smart for McGregor to capture the eye of MMA fans and media. He hasn’t even fought in nearly a year and yet remains talked about over almost any other fighter. He is clearly a very wise man. The UFC has had talks with McGregor about coming at UFC 239 at a co-main event fight against Nate Diaz, but McGregor was adamant he wants to fight in the main event, and it appears that is at the crux of his beef with UFC president Dana White and co.. This could be McGregor posturing and trying to get the UFC to call his bluff, but it remains to be seen.
Without McGregor, the UFC will need to go ahead and book UFC 239 without him as a potential fight. The rumors are that the UFC would like to do Daniel Cormier against Brock Lesnar for the UFC heavyweight title in the main event, and there are plenty of different alternatives for the card including Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington for the UFC welterweight title. As much as the fans want to view McGregor come back and fight someone like Diaz, as far as it appears like the promotion demands McGregor, they truly don’t, along with the UFC’s well-oiled machine will continue to move forwards with or without the Irish celebrity.

Paul Daley vs. Erick Silva, Bellator 223
An intriguing welterweight bout between Paul Daley and Erick Silva was added to Bellator 223. Daley (40-17-2) is currently 5-4 in Bellator and is coming off of a close decision loss to Michael Page using a decision loss to Jon Fitch before that. He hasn’t won as a KO win over Lorenz Larkin in September 2017. Silva (20-10, 1 NC) is 0-1 in Bellator, having lost by decision to Yaroslav Amosov in his promotional debut. His last win came in July 2018 over Nick Barnes in LFA. Although Silva has a puncher’s chance, he’s a shell of his former self, and even though Daley struggling to win his last few fights, he must be chosen to win this bout.
James Gallagher vs. Jeremiah Labiano, Bellator 223
Featherweights James Gallagher and Jeremiah Labiano will struggle at Bellator 223. Gallagher (8-1) has a 5-1 record in Bellator and rebounded nicely from his upset KO loss to Ricky Bandejas using a submission win over Stephen Graham his last time out. Labiano (12-6) is 2-2 overall in Bellator and is coming from a TKO win over Justin Smitley. Even though Gallagher is overrated, he should nevertheless be favored to win this battle.
Melvin Manhoef vs. Kent Kauppinen, Bellator 223
Middleweights Melvin Manhoef and Kent Kauppinen also fulfill at Bellator 223. Manhoef (30-14-1, two NC) is currently 42-years-old now and is coming off of successive losses to former champ Rafael Carvalho. His final win was a knockout victory over Hisaki Kato back in 2015, and he has a 2-3, 1 NC album in Bellator. Kauppinen (11-4) is just 1-1 in Bellator but he’s coming off of a KO win over Alessio Sakara that was a breakthrough performance for him. Despite Manhoef’s advantage in experience, you have to favor the younger and more durable fighter in Kauppinen.
Julia Budd vs. Olga Rubin, Bellator 224
And lastly, Bellator 224 occurs July 12 in WinStar Resort Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma and the primary event features Bellator women’s featherweight champion Julia Budd against Olga Rubin. Budd (12-2) has a perfect 6-0 record in Bellator and has not lost since a submission defeat to Ronda Rousey way back in 2011. She will be coming into this fight off of a one-year layoff because she hasn’t competed because a TKO win over Talita Nogueira last July, but Budd remains one of the most formidable women’s featherweights in the world regardless of any layoff. Rubin (6-0) is 4-0 in Bellator, although her level of competition was sub-par, to say the very least. However, she received this name shot because of her perfect record and because there’s no one else worthy of fighting Budd, that will no doubt be a massive favored to win the fight.

Daniel Ricciardo says Renault made engine ‘statement’ at Italian GP

“To get the very best group outcome, here at Monza on a power circuit, because 2008 is a true statement. They copped a great deal of grief throughout the last couple of years and they’ve made some gains this year. This one’s for these.”
The big 22-point haul from Monza may also serve to kickstart what up to then had been an season. Renault have proceeded ahead of Toro Rosso into fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship and closed at fourth to within 18 points of McLaren.
