Ugandan Students Miss College Graduation When They Gamble Away Tuition

Fifty-five company school pupils missed their graduation that is own after away their tuition in Kampala, Uganda

Many schools and universities have codes of conduct that look down on students participating in gambling activities. So while the students of Makerere Business Institute (MBI) in Kampala, Uganda were most likely encouraged to invest their funds, doing so by betting on sports was not more likely to win them friends that are many the administration.

Students Gambled Away Tuition

A total of 55 students with MBI were forced to miss out on graduation ceremonies after they reportedly spent funds including some that were earmarked for their tuition on gambling and recreations betting. The announcement by school principal Nathan Twesigye influenced his comments during the school’s recent graduation ceremony.

Twesigye was especially surprised to locate that the gambling issue apparently affected a range that is diverse of.

‘ As you can see, girls have started gambling, which is quite strange,’ Twesigye said.

Gambling is quickly becoming business that is big Uganda. That may surprise observers that are many Africa, but those more familiar with the nation can understand why. The populace of Uganda is young, enjoys sports, and at least in the capital town of Kampala benefits from being better educated and wealthier compared to generations before them.

Massachusetts Anti-Casino Ballot Question Gets Nixed by State AG

A citizens’ anti-gambling initiative has been shot down by the State’s Attorney General

While the continuing state of Massachusetts is gearing up for rapid expansion of gambling in the state, not everyone has been excited about the move. That’s why some anti-gambling activists there have produced a petition in an effort to force a vote that is statewide set up casino projects would be able to go forward.

Those that are against the brand new casinos were able to gather enough signatures to send the ballot question forward to the attorney general’s office. But regrettably for them, the continuing state solicitor however a stop to the move, saying that the ballot concern wouldn’t be legal underneath the state’s ballot initiative process.

Constitutional Provisions Preclude Ballot Question

The ballot initiative process is covered by Article 48 under the current state Constitution. That article not just outlines the process for getting a relevant question on the ballot, but also establishes what can and may not be included in such concerns. One of the rules for proposals states that they cannot affect an entity’s ‘right to get payment for private property appropriated to public use’.

According to state solicitor Peter Sacks, in the event that question were to be authorized by the public, thus closing the casino deals immediately, it might take the casino developers’ contract rights away with no settlement.
